The Thought Train

“All Aboard,” the conductor shouts.
He’s taking tickets for the Thought Train just pulling out.

“Never mind dirty windows, there’s nothing to see.”
“Take a seat wherever, it’s just you and me.”

A comfortable seat, worn by old habits and fear.
You settle in, hoping this headache will clear.

Riding these rails for millennia now,
The route has worn ruts into stem, stern and bow.

It’s easy to ride, takes no effort at all.
And the destination, Misery, is the only port of call.

Building up steam as the wheels start to roll,
Puffing up ego’s blustering blow.

Picking up speed, thoughts will gather their mates,
Downhill, like snowballs, we cement our fates.

Captured aboard a mind’s runaway train,
“There’s no escape,” screams the terrified brain.

Arriving in Hell, thinking we owe a debt.
Exhausted, we lie there until we reset.

Waking up slowly we hear the train’s call,
Again we’re reminded how easy we fall.

Determined there must be an easier way,
for one Holy Instant we hear the Voice say,

“Take captive, O Captive, the thoughts in your mind,
For ‘like attracts like,’ and ‘blind lead the blind.'”

“When boarding a thought train, first gather yourself,
Determine which ones are the best for your health.”

“Then ponder them slowly and with care, collect
Others just like them, and contrary reject.”

Your train’s destination is yours to decide.
By what you are thinking, you’re always its guide.
